Sometimes the SmartHome 2414U PowerLinc gets into a state with a variety of symptoms. Some of them are:
There are two possible resolutions for this problem. Try this one first: Disconnect the USB cable then remove the 2414 from the outlet, wait about 1 minute, reconnect the USB cable, press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds and while still holding the button in, insert it into the outlet and still hold the button in for another 10 seconds then release. This will reset the PowerLinc. If the 2414U LED turns to a steady ON after a few seconds there is one last task. Start HCA and from the menu choose: HCA - Hardware - Insteon - Update Insteon Link Database This updates the table inside the 2414U that contains the
address of all your devices. This is necessary so the 2414U will pass
messages from those devices to HCA. If this simple fix doesn't work then try this more complex method. For this you need to reset the application that runs inside the 2414U. Currently HCA version 7 can not do this. You must use software available from SmartHome. Go here: On this page is a link "Smarthome Manager Essential Timer Software.exe". Use that link to download the application. Next, shutdown HCA using File - Shutdown (Not File - Exit). Then install the SmartHome application and start it. Select from the menu: SETUP / OPTIONS / RESET TIMER APPLICATION This usually clears the problem. The PowerLinc LED turns to solid "ON". Exit the Smarthome application, then restart HCA. Again, like the first fix described above, you must follow the instructions for updating the 2414U link table using the HCA menu pick. If you are still having problems with getting your 2414U to work with HCA after these fixes, please contact technical support.
Why this problem occurs with the 2414U remains under investigation. To the best of our understanding, HCA is not sending any incorrect commands to the 2414U or in any way not using the 2414U correctly. In HCA 8 we spent a major part of the development looking into 2414U problems. During the beta test no problems were found but we are leaving this technical note here for your reference. |
