I'm going to be switching from my 2414U to a new 2412U some time soon. Just for kicks, I plugged in the 2412U and started up HCA 9 but when I tried to configure the 2412U with HCA, HCA did not offer a USB option - only serial? Of course, Smarthome shipped the wrong instructions with my 2412U, so I have nothing in the box but the 2412U and some instructions for a 2412S.
After some web searching, I found that I needed to install the drivers for the chip used in the 2412U, which convert USB to a virtual serial port. The drivers can be found here:

Once I installed the Driver on my 64 bit Vista Ultimate, the 2412U was recognized and HCA connected to it and read the version information. I haven't actually tried using the 2412U yet.
