I'm curious to know what others are running for their host PC and what operating system you are using.

I have just finished testing HCA 9.0 on a tiny little Compaq Netbook with an Atom Processor, 1gb memory and WIndows 7 Starter. The beastie performed like a champ.

I have 2 devices with serial interfaces that must interface to the PC as well as 1 USB. This machine has 3 USB ports so I was able to install USB->Serial cables in two USB ports and the the USB PLC into the 3rd. Worked without a hiccup the first time I fired it up.

HCA performed flawlessly on it, even on the Starter version of Win7. It took everything I threw at it. My own installation is relatively small and I would like to see how it would do in a large installation but it just kind of appeared to be loafing along running my house.

What do the rest of you use, especially you guys with big Insteon and UBP setups?

To add to the thread:

I'm currently running HCA 9.0 Plus off a HP laptop (4GB, Core 2 duo). Windows 7 Pro. Runs 24x7. This laptop is dedicated to HCA/running house monitoring software.

Three hardware interfaces to HCA: a 2413U, UPB serial and W800RF32...oh, and, and a Thum temp/RH USB device. The USB devices are connected via a CyberPower USB hub.

~50 Insteon, 6USB and 6-10 X-10 motion detectors (handled via the W800).

Swiched from a tower running xp-pro over a month ago and the laptop has been running beautifully since.

Only issue has been with the W800... if I need to do a reboot (install softtware, whatever, only a couple times have needed to do) then the W800 device sometimes doesn't cleanly come up...need to unplug the USB cable/plug it back in and have HCA re-detect.

There are a number of programs/schedules running at any time (motion sensor triggered, etc).

Hello all.

I made a long post on the forums about Windows Home server and the Acer EasyStore, It is still working great. Last time I looked HCA was reporting an "up time" of over 90 days.

I just moved my extensive HCA powered automation system over to an Atom N270 server based on the new Intel Johnstown motherboard. System has no fan and draws 12W. Info is here: SolidLogic Johnstown T-1610 (http://www.logicsupply.com/products/jt_t_1610)

NewEgg also had a 30GB OCZ SSD on sale for $70 shipped ($30 mail in rebate) so the entire system was about $300.

Performance is stellar; I couldn't be happier.
