I recently picked up an EZIO8SA and was reading the tutorial "How do I work with the Insteon EZIO device?" About half way down it states:

"Inputs can be used in two ways. You can query them to see if the input is ON or OFF. You can also use their change in state (OFF to ON or ON to OFF) to trigger a program. For this to work you must first program the EZIO to broadcast a message when an input change state. This can't be done with HCA but must be done with the EZIO setup program available from the manufacturers web site."

How do you communicate from the pc to the EZIO8SA to do this? I'm guessing it's from a serial port to the PLM, in my case a 2412s which has a RJ45 connector. You are not connecting to the EZIO8SA correct? What would the pinout be for this DB9 to RJ45 cable?

Problem solved. I found out you communicate with the EZIO8SA using your existing PLC(2414u) to the PLM(2412s) to the EZIO8SA. No extra cable is needed. You will also need to use SDM3 that comes with the Simple Home Utility Suite as SDM2 is not supported.

New problem. I cannot get HCA to respond to changes in inputs. HCA can control the 8 output relays just fine. I do have "Broadcast Status Chg" enabled. I am using magnetic contacts and when using the Simple Home Utility Suite, I can see the changes in input state ON or OFF there. Looking at HCA's log file, I do not see any messages and any programs I create to trigger off the inputs do not work. Example; I have input 2 defined as a device and have a program that triggers off of this input(device). When input 2 changes state nothing happens and nothing shows up in the log. Any ideas?

Ok, EZIO8SA is now responding to changes to the input. I deleted the the "Input 1" Device I had created and just recreated it and now its working. Go figure. Additionally, not only do you need to enable "Broadcast Status Change" but also "Debounce the inputs". After closing the contacts on Input 1 the log would show "off" about 50 times or more.

Input 1 is wired to magnetic contacts on a door. A program uses this as a trigger to turn on a light when the door is opened. Using the EZIO8SA, there is about a 2 second delay from door open to light on. I have found this delay to be common with Triggerlinc's as well.
