My X10 RCS TXB15 finally died after many years of service.

Wanting to move away from X10 for all my devices I took this opertunity to move to an INSTEON based thermostat. I purchased the Venstar T1800 Thermostat together with the INSTEON Venstar Thermostat Adapter (2441V) (with latest 2.x firmware).

I have HCA Plus and I setup this new device and all appears to be working fine from the GUI. For example, I right click on the thermostat icon and I can see the current temperature and heat/cold set points, etc.

Problem is, I entered a little HCA program to query the various thermostat setting and print them out, i.e.,

Mode: %_mode( Thermostat)%
Measured Temperature: %_temperature( Thermostat) %%_tempUnits()%
Thermostat Set Temp: %_setPoint( Thermostat)%%_tempUnits()%
Is Fan On: % _isFanOn( Thermostat)%

Unfortunately this does NOT work?

Not sure what I'm doing wrong or if this level of access to the aforementioned thermostat is simply not available?

Any help, anyone?

thanks

OK, I played around a little more, I don't use the visual programming stuff often so this was probably a documented limitation but I was able to get (query) the V2441V thermostat settings (just the mode, setpoint, and temperature) by using the "Thermostat Test Properties" Visual Programmer element and stuffing the results into flags (variables).

It's quite cumbersome but works :-)!

I am also moving all my devices to Insteon from X10, and am planning on a thermostat (although I do not have one now). Any suggestions or things to watch out for?

Got my first box of goodies (access points, two SwitchLincs, and a KeyPadLinc) coming in a few days - Insteon is a LOT more expensive than X10, that's for sure!

I have one I have yet to install.... it's waiting for me to rerun a wire from it's mounting location to the heater in the basement. Only a two wire and I'll need to do a 3 wire configuration since we're only running heat. Wanted to do it last fall so it could run this winter, but that hasn't happened yet. The mild winter here in the North East hasn't really given me much of a driving reason to do it cause we're not using our heat that much this year.
