Step 1:
Knowing how your Insteon Network is linked together, locate a device that is linked to other devices. A good choice would be a ControlLinc or KeypadLinc that is your "central control" for your home.
Step 2:
Either create a new HCA design (File - New) or open an existing design
Step 3:
Manually add the device you identified in step 1. If it is a switch or module use New - Device. If it is a KeypadLinc or a ControlLinc use New - Controller. At the Wizard step 3 where it asks for the type of device, select as the Manufacturer "Insteon by SmartHome" and the type as the model you have.
39
In the Wizard step 4 enter the Insteon address of the device. This is usually found on a sticker attached to the device. This is the only address you will need to know as HCA will find the rest of them for you.
Step4:
Select from the menu Insteon - Insteon Network Capture Databases
40
Make sure that the "Attempt to locate..." option is enabled then press the "Start Network Scan" button.
HCA reads the linking table from the one device and follows any links to locate other devices. From those devices it looks for other devices and so will "crawl" your whole network.
41
When the network scan is completed HCA pops up a message:
42
If you press "Yes, Go Ahead", for each new device found HCA shows this dialog:
43
In this dialog HCA displays the Insteon address of the device, and you need to select its type, and enter a name and folder for it. To help you pair the HCA device with the actual device in your home, you can use the ON-OFF button which cycles the device on and off so you can identify what was found.
Close the dialog with OK when done. The next found device appears.
Once completed, your HCA design now has all the devices found. If you have some other Insteon devices that were not located in this way all you need do is to add them manually or add a few manually that have links to others and start the scan over again.
Don't forget to save your design file!
