The Insteon RemoteLinc is a wireless 6 button Insteon keypad. It's use is about the same as for any other Insteon Keypad with a few differences.
First, you need to find out the Insteon address of the RemoteLinc. Sometimes there is a sticker on the RemoteLinc but not always. The address is not the address of the AccessPoint plug-in wireless repeaters.
If the RemoteLinc doesn't have an address sticker then here is a procedure for finding out its address.
Step 1
Manually link the RemoteLinc to some device already in your Insteon Network that you have previously added to your HCA design. Take note of the button on the RemoteLinc you used. If possible use the F or E button.
Step 2
Select from the HCA menu HCA - Properties and on the "Extra" tab enter the code IPLUS. Just those 5 characters all in uppercase. Once you have entered the code, "Provide extra Insteon options" appears next to the code edit box.
Step 3
Open the properties of the device you manually linked the RemoteLinc to back in Step 1. On the Insteon address tab will be some additional options - these appears because of the IPLUS code. Press the "Read Database" button. This reads the linking database out of the device and displays it for you.

What you are looking for in the database listing is a device shown by its address and not by its name. HCA displays the Insteon address if the link is for a device not already in your design. Since you have not yet created a controller for the RemoteLinc it should b easy to spot. In addition, as a check, the group will be the number of the button you linked with back in step 5. Button A is 1 and F is 6. In this example the RemoteLinc Insteon address is 0A.16.FB and I linked button E.
Now that you know the RemoteLinc address all you need do is to add it to your HCA design using New Controller. At the third wizard step choose as the manufacturer "Insteon by SmartHome" and select as the model "RemoteLinc 6 button wireless keypad". In the next step enter the Insteon address you determined for the RemoteLinc.
Additional Helpful Hints:
You should not add to your design the AccessPoint modules. There is nothing that HCA needs to know about them.
The RemoteLinc, being a wireless device, has a wireless receiver and transmitter. That transmitter is normally not on unless you press a button. If you want to link HCA to one of the buttons or use the RemoteLinc in any scenes you construct using the Visual Scene Editor you must make sure that the receiver is on when HCA tries to program it. The easiest way to do that is to put the RemoteLinc into linking mode by pressing and holding one of the buttons until it beeps then release the button. As long as the LED is blinking it remains in linking mode and its wireless receiver is on. You will need to do this anytime that HCA wants to read or write to the RemoteLinc. To exit linking mode just double-click the key you entered linking mode with.
Other than these few differences, the RemoteLinc works the same with HCA as does the ControlLinc or KeypadLinc.
