A Multi-Way is a set of devices that when locally controlled (paddle tapped or button pushed) all the devices in the multi-way turn on or off. For example you can have two SwitchLincs and a KeypadLinc button in a multi-way. Push the KeypadLinc button and both SwitchLincs come on. Tap the bottom rocker on one of the SwitchLincs and it goes off and the other SwitchLinc goes off and the KeypadLinc button too.
There is nothing magic about this as it is all done with links. But it can be a lot of work to set up a multi-way even using the HCA Visual Scene Editor. To make it simpler, HCA has a tool for creating and maintaining multi-ways.
Select from the menu Insteon - Insteon Multi-Way wizard. The first step is:
44
Since you are creating a multi-way just press Next.
45
Move the members of the multi-way to the right list. In this example, some switches and a KeypadLinc button are members of the Multi-Way. Once programmed, press the KeypadLinc button and the lights come on. Tap any switch paddle off and the other devices and the KeypadLinc button shows as off as well.
To continue setting up this multi-way press the Next button.
46
Press the Program button to program all the members of the multi-way.
That's all. HCA sends the programming commands to the devices to update their linking tables.
If at some later date you decide to add or remove a member from the multi-way the multi-way wizard has that option. In step 1 select the edit option and choose the multi-way to edit. The rest of the wizard is the same.
