There are two major classes of problems that can happen.
If your symptoms are:
Flashing status LED on the 2414U.
Very sluggish response when sending ON/OFF/DIM commands outbound
Non-response inbound from the Insteon signals. HCA doesn't show a log entry for receipt of a command, almost as if the 2414U had only its "outbound" brain available.
"No response" returned from "get status" commands, etc. The first thing to review is the 2414U PowerLinc (http://www.hcatech.com/forum/showthread.php?p=53#post53) technical note.
The other major problem that an happen is when adding a new device or controller. At the completion of the wizard HCA has to update the linking table inside the PowerLinc. Is that table is corrupted then HCA can hang or show the hourglass cursor for an extended time.
To resolve this, select from the menu HCA - Hardware - Insteon - Insteon PLC Utilities

Press the "Clear Full" button. This takes several minutes but completely reinitializes the linking table. After the operation completes, press the "Add Devices" button to repopulate the table with the addresses of all the devices in your design.
This resets the PowerLinc linking table so HCA can work with it.
