To HCA the IRLinc with the credit-card remote is just a 12 button keypad. You can use the Visual Scene Editor to program the IRLinc and also create program with triggers for buttons A to L.
The IRLinc can also work with a universal remote. You put the IRLinc into learning mode and it remembers an IR command so that IR command can be linked to other devices and HCA. When using a universal remote the problem is to figure out what group number was assigned to the each learned button press. Once you know this then you can create HCA programs that trigger on that remote button.
Follow these instructions to see what group gets assigned when you link the IRLinc to a remote button.
Step 1
Select from the HCA menu HCA - Properties and on the "Extra" tab enter the code IPLUS. Just those 5 characters all in uppercase. Once you have entered the code, "Provide extra Insteon options" appears next to the code edit box.
Step 2
Open the properties of the IRLinc device. On the Insteon address tab will be some additional options - these appears because of the IPLUS code. Press the "Read Database" button. This reads the linking database out of the device and displays it for you.

Note in the linking database group 5 (Scene E on the credit- card remote) is linked to Office - Switch. Group 13 and Group 14 are not credit-card remote links - credit-card remote links go up to group 12. The first button on the remote that was learned and linked was assigned group 13 and the second button that was learned and linked got assigned group 14.
Now that you know the groups assigned it is simple to create triggers for those buttons to start HCA programs. When you create a HCA program trigger for the IRLinc, unlike Insteon keypads where the only choices are for the buttons, you also get choices for the extra groups used by the non-credit-card remotes.

At this time HCA doesn't provide a method to program the IRLinc for non-credit-card remote button presses nor is there a way to name these so you will have to remember what IR Remote buttons correspond to what group number. You can make notes in the IRLinc notes section to help you remember.
