This is a little program that lets you control your volume of your computer using the command line. It also lets you restart your computer, shut it down, play wave files and a few other bells & wistles. It also has a cool little screen saver program. I just use it for volume control.
it is called WIZMO (http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm). It is easy to use and it is free.
To use the volume control make a program using the "run program" element. In the exe file type "wizmo.exe" and in the command line type "volume=100" the "100" is a % of volume level, 0 being mute and 100 being full blast.

one note: make sure to copy and paste wizmo.exe into your c:/windows file so hca can find it
